Yes, I saw that!
New megatrain routes from London to Bournemouth and Weymouth starting on the 20th April and from London to Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Salisbury and Yeovil starting on the 22nd April.

Well, I think, fairly predictably, fares this low are always going to be for seats that can't be sold any other way.
Nonetheless, I hope that this trial proves successful and that megatrain continues to expand across the UK. _________________ Alan Lansdowne

I dont think they can expand to the whole UK. Megatrain is own by SouthWest train which only serves current cities.
The only way this £1 fares spreading throughout this island is only if other train companies take up the idea. |

You're right - the megatrain brand can only operate on train companies like Southwest Trains which are subsidiaries of the Stagecoach Group.
But Stagecoach has a 49% stake in Virgin Trains as well, right? _________________ Alan Lansdowne

Yes, megatrain is - as first predicted on attitude Travel back in April - now operating on Virgin Trains.
The new megatrain routes available are:
1) Manchester - Oxenholme - Carlisle
2) Carlisle - Glasgow and Carlisle - Edinburgh
3) Edinburgh - Dunbar - Berwick upon Tweed - Alnmouth - Morpeth
4) Birmingham - Southampton - Bournemouth
5) Bristol - Exeter - Plymouth - Penzance
Given that until now, megatrain has only been operating direct routes from London Waterloo railway station, that's quite a route network expansion! _________________ Alan Lansdowne
